TLDR Review: Gorilla Waterproof Tape 4" x 10'
Verdict
The Gorilla Waterproof Patch & Seal Tape is a strong and versatile option for quick, reliable waterproof repairs on pond liners, pipes, inflatables, and tiles, as long as you give proper surface preparation and application care. It performs best as a durable temporary or semi-permanent patch rather than a perfect permanent fix for heavy leaks or constantly wet conditions. If you need a tape that sticks underwater and offers the highest level of adhesion without complex prep, you might also want to consider specialized high-end tapes like Eternabond, but for most general waterproof patching needs, this Gorilla tape offers great value and ease of use.
- Top pro:
- Adheres very strongly with a sticky, durable waterproof seal that holds up well in harsh weather including sun, snow, and freezing temperatures.
- Top con:
- Requires thorough cleaning and drying of the surface with high-purity alcohol for best results, including removing flocking or dirt.
Pros
- •Adheres very strongly with a sticky, durable waterproof seal that holds up well in harsh weather including sun, snow, and freezing temperatures.
- •Works great for repairing pond liners even underwater when applied properly and with surface preparation.
- •Effectively patches vinyl rips and cracks on various surfaces such as PVC pipes, inflatable items, and shower/tub tiles.
- •Comes in a convenient 4" width and 10' length rolls, with a solid black color that is visually acceptable for many applications.
- •Easy to apply with soft texture that is comfortable to handle and work with.
- •Reliable for waterproof sealing tasks and worth repurchasing due to consistent performance.
- •Overlapping multiple patches increases durability and overall repair strength.
- •Offers a satisfactory, cost-effective alternative to more specialized brands like Eternabond.
- •Maintains adhesion and effectiveness for at least 6 weeks and resists loosening under normal conditions.
Cons
- •Requires thorough cleaning and drying of the surface with high-purity alcohol for best results, including removing flocking or dirt.
- •Does not stick well to wet or moist surfaces initially; surface must be completely dry and ideally flat for good adhesion.
- •May need heavy pressure applied for several hours after application to fully bond and avoid peeling.
- •Adhesive quality can seem mediocre to some, with sections potentially loosening or peeling off over time.
- •Does not always stop water leaks completely, often only slowing them down, making it better suited for temporary or emergency fixes.
- •Needs at least one inch of tape overlap beyond the damage area for effective sealing.
- •Not designed for permanent repairs on high-pressure or constantly wet areas without additional sealing measures.
